Beauty Heroes Box Review, January & February 2017

I do not pay full price for anything. I have very expensive taste (on most things), but there is no way in hell I’m going to pay full retail value because IMHO everything is overpriced. I do believe you get what you pay for, so I don’t like to buy cheap brands, BUT, this is precisely why I’m a subscription box junkie! Boxes allow me to try things I would never otherwise buy, or even know about. Makeup and beauty products are SO EXPENSIVE these days – especially when you are set on toxin-free and cruelty-free products – so finding good quality beauty subscriptions is my goal. Beauty Heroes is just that; high quality beauty items at a fraction of the cost!

Beauty Heroes  is a monthly subscription box; however you must sign up for a minimum of 3 months.

Beauty Heroes offers 3-, 6-, and 12-month membership subscriptions for our beauty discovery service.  Subscriptions automatically renew, but may be canceled at any time to prevent them from renewing.

3-months $115  ($38.33/month)

6-months $225  ($37.50/month)

12-months $450 ($37.50/month)

Members also get a 15% discount in their beauty store, and you can cancel any time. What I like most is their commitment to quality ingredients. They give you full “Ingredient Intel” and the founder, Jeannie Jarnot, personally hand selects and tests every product!

Our Beauty Product Ingredient Standard is the foundation of Beauty Heroes. We want to be your most trusted source for healthy beauty, so ingredient integrity is everything. Our Beauty Product Ingredient Standard ensures that our curated product selections are more than toxin-free; they are good for you, completely effective and naturally luxurious.

Each box will contain one full-size “Hero” product, and at least one surprise product to compliment it. The value each month varies from $60 to $100. (My kind of deal!)

I just started this (newer) subscription, and will be reviewing January & February for you below. I am not a Beauty Heroes affiliate, and I pay for my subscription. Please note that while I do receive boxes free of charge to review from time to time, I *never* accept compensation in exchange for a positive review. All of my reviews are my honest, personal opinions and contain my own photography (unless otherwise stated).

Beauty Heroes Box Review, January 2017

This is my first Beauty Heroes Box to start the New Year!  A cute little white box with their logo.

They shipped to “CrazyDogMama”! I feel validated!! Details like this impress me.  🙂

Very nicely packed – the tissue paper was immaculate, and there was a little inspirational card glued to the top of the box.

The items were well protected and the presentation was lovely.

I love inspirational quotes! (I have them all over my house.) Such a nice touch.

This month’s box features “Maya Chia” products. I had never heard of Maya Chia before, so this was exciting for me! Their products sound wonderful & include many essential oils. I adore essential oils and have recently started researching and using them on a regular basis, and I have to say, I am enjoying the many benefits! I didn’t realize the power they have.

The new beauty discovery for the month is “The Super Couple” by Maya Chia – Retail Value $85

The Super Couple is a multi-correctional high-performance ultra luxe face oil serum combining one of the world’s most powerful antioxidants, astaxanthin, with nature’s #1 superfood, chia, rich with skin-loving omega fatty acids, antioxidants & minerals. Astaxanthin is an anti-aging powerhouse to combat the appearance of dull, tired, aging skin.

Being that I am 45 years old, I am excited to have the opportunity to try luxury anti-aging products! I would probably never spend $85 on a face oil without having tried it first, so this is the whole allure of boxes for me.

The insert card is really professional printed on hard paper stock, and has a ton of great information on the products. It lists the ingredients, the benefits, the prices, how to use the products and where to find them online.

The ‘sidekick’ or surprise product this month is Maya Chia’s Limited Edition Supercritical Chia Waterless Wonderbalm – Retail Value $12. This is a smaller, sample version of their larger 2 oz. balm, which is $42.

I have been using this face oil for about a month now, and I LOVE IT! My acne scars have faded, my skin is soft and smooth and it looks brighter, too. The formula is an orange color, and you need very little of it to smooth over your entire face and neck (don’t forget your neck) – so it is going to last forever. The smell is a subtle woody scent – which is pleasant to me because I don’t care for fruity scents. You can use it both morning and night, which is great. I use it at night before bed, and before putting on my makeup in the morning.

This balm is really nice! Remember Bain De Soleil suntan gel in the white tube from the 80’s? It kind of smells a little like that – but much more subtle. I used to wear that stuff like perfume when I was a teenager. LOL! So, that being said, when I use this balm on my hands/cuticles, I keep smelling my hands. It goes on a little oily at first, but after a minute it soaks right in and doesn’t leave any residue. Whatever you put it on stays soft for hours. I have extremely dry skin, so I am always on the lookout for good balms. I really like Supercritical Chia Waterless Wonderbalm and could see myself purchasing it on my own. I keep it next to my laptop and apply it often to my hands; although you can use it anywhere you have dry spots.

So that sums up my first Beauty Heroes box! So far so good – for $38.33, I received $97 worth of (great) products that were new to me! Score!

Beauty Heroes Box Review, February 2017

The box was slightly bigger this month, which made me all giddy. (It’s the little things, people…)

The same lovely packaging – but the tissue paper is purple this time!

A-ha! The tissue paper is purple this time because it matches the product packaging!  Last month the tissue paper was orange-red, which coordinated with that month’s product packaging. Genius! 🙂 Pleasing aesthetics has been proven critical for marketing purposes, and really works on ME.

Instead of an inspirational quote card, this month has a ‘sleep card’ where you enter in your ideal sleep schedule & routine. I have no schedule or routine/ritual. At all. Sometimes I go to bed at 8:00 pm, and sometimes I’m up until 3 am. It’s random. I am trying hard to adopt a nightly skin care regimen, but I’ll admit I suck at consistency. Perhaps if I write it down…

This month’s products are by “Osmia Organics“. Another brand I’ve never heard of and get to try at a discount! Hooray!

The “hero” product for February is “Night Body Oil” by Osmia – Retail Value $64 (Large)

This ‘Night Body Oil’ is made with powerful, organic essential oils of lavender and roman chamomile, and a beautiful, wild atlas cedar oil (among other ingredients). I mostly smell the cedar oil and lavender – which is divine. Here is why it is best applied at night:

Aromatherapy Perks:

-Lavender significantly diminishes tension and heals skin cells.

-Roman chamomile decreases irritability and soothes the GI system.

-Atlas cedarwood may gently stimulate the pineal gland, which releases melatonin (the sleep hormone). It is spiritually grounding and stabilizing.

The sidekick this month is “Lip Doctor” by Osmia – Retail Value $12.

I have only used this ‘Night Body Oil’ once because I just got the box a few days ago, but so far I really like it. The earthy scent is pleasant without being overwhelming, and it makes me feel really soft. The directions say to use it on sopping wet skin (OK, no problem), but NOT to dry off before OR after application. So I have to stand there dripping all over the place? Hmm…

If you read the box, it explains why you must apply to wet skin, and not dry off before or after application. Alright, this makes sense, but it’s still weird.  I didn’t know what to do with myself just standing there in the shower without the water running. BUT, if it helps my dry skin and gives me peaceful sleep, I suppose it is well worth the awkwardness. I don’t take a shower before bed every night, but on the days that I do, I will definitely be using the oil so that I wake up nice and supple. 😉

I have to note this: MONKEY BRAIN. “Breath deeply as you apply, and put your monkey brain to bed.” BAHAHAHA!! Never in my life have I ever run across a beauty product with a sense of humor. They do have a point, though, I indeed have a monkey brain.  Too funny.

Lots of good stuff in this!

I carry the ‘Lip Doctor’ around in my purse and apply every 30 minutes or so, because my lips are super dry all the time and it drives me NUTS. This helps. There really is no scent that I can detect, or it is too subtle for my damaged olfactory receptors from so many years of smoking; but that is nice. I don’t necessarily want an overwhelming scent on my lips. I found this tidbit interesting from the site and wonder if I suffer from the same thing:

Our new Lip Doctor is a simple formula with a complicated history. Our founder experienced an incredibly frustrating few months with miserable, peeling lips before she figured out she had an allergy to a component of castor oil called ricinoleic acid. She created this formula to soothe her lips, and she has since given it to friends in need, when their lips were in a compromised and unhappy state.

So there’s the February Beauty Heroes Box roundup! What does your Monkey Brain think?? My monkey brain is doing flips because I got $76 worth of awesome products for $38! This is a little lower value than last month, but still a fantastic deal.
