Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box Review, June 2020
Here it is! I was so excited for this month’s box. I want to note that you only get the free ‘Big Bonus Box’ with your first box, and then with every 6th box – which I have to say is a phenomenal perk! The Big Bonus Box includes additional supplies needed to make the recipes in the subsequent boxes, and you can see my review of it here.
Once subscribed/ordered, your box generally ships the next day and and will arrive 2-3 business days after that. Your next box will be billed and shipped on the same day you placed your first order in. You can cancel any time, or skip a box.
The oils are packed really nicely in sturdy cardboard pockets to decrease the chances of spillage or breakage.
Each monthly box comes with 4 essential oils + 6 recipe cards, and additional items to complete the recipes. Quite impressive for the low cost of the box! Simply Earth is able to cut out the middle-man and work directly with the farmers to give you a more affordable value. This is the haul from the June 2020 Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box themed “The Oily Aid Kit”.
On the backs of the recipe cards are notes and additional information about the box. This is a note from Katie – a recipe formulator and certified aromatherapist. This month she talks about the theme of the box (The Oily Aid Kit) and how it is the perfect home remedy kit for all of your minor aches & pains. All natural and toxin-free, of course!
Have a question? Want to know more? Looking for recipes? Simply Earth has several resources available through their website; a FAQ page, a blog, a subscriber Facebook page, an essential oil hero course, and an email for customer service.
You also receive a ‘sneek peek’ at next month’s box that is themed “Salon in a box”! I appreciate that they inform you ahead of time, of any extra items you may need to complete the recipes.
Simply Earth gives back! With every box and purchase, you are helping in the fight against human trafficking. This month, 13% of their profits are going to ‘Dton Naam‘, a group in Bangkok, Thailand that is transforming the lives of boys who were forced into human trafficking. We often forget that boys are victims of trafficking, too, and Dton Naam Ministries offers boys and transgender sex workers the opportunity to leave prostitution and helps them to rebuild their lives holistically by providing education, healthcare, counseling, and vocational skills training. Even if you aren’t a Simply Earth subscriber, I highly encourage you to support this cause.
This card gives subscribers all the details about how to earn discounted and free boxes!
This card is a breakdown of the items included in this month’s box (with descriptions).
Simply Earth’s batch-tested, 100% pure essential oil selections for June! Not all essential oils are created equal, so it’s important to be diligent when selecting the oils you wish to use. You want to look for purity, where the oil is from (grown) and it’s therapeutic grade classification. Don’t just blindly order from any company – do your research! I’ve done mine, and Simply Earth gets a thumbs up from this picky buyer.
Commitment to Quality
With the safety of your home in mind, we’re meticulous about every step of our process. To make sure each plant reaches its potential, we carefully and ethically choose a region where it will thrive. Then we work with our farmers. When our plants have reached maturity, they are harvested safely and fairly. From there we collect their natural essential oils through either cold-pressing or steam-distillation. Every batch is then tested to ensure 100% purity.
Here are the deets on each oil included in this box:
Simply Earth Timber Essential Oil Blend (15 mL) – Retail Value $11.99
Timber essential oil is a blend of Cypress, Patchouli, Cedarwood, Peru Balsam, Mandarin, & Sandalwood essential oils, and has a nice earthy/woody fragrance with a hint of vanilla. It’s antibacterial and soothing to the skin, so is perfect for DIY skin care! Cautions: This oil is safe for kids (10+), but is not recommended for use during breast feeding or pregnancy, or for dogs/cats.
This blend is right up my alley! It is has a deep, woodsy masculine scent that is not too overpowering. I love me some masculine scents! My favorite DIY projects are body butters and oils, so it will get used often in my house.
Simply Earth Bumps & Boo-boos Essential Oil Blend (15 mL) – Retail Value $15.99
Bumps & Boo-boos Essential Oil is a blend of Helichrysum, Lavender, Tea Tree, & Lemon. It can help improve the appearance of skin (acne, scarring, etc.), and soothes burns, minor scrapes and skin irritations. It is also effective in calming the nerves. Cautions: This oil is safe for kids (2+), however it is not recommended for use during breast feeding or pregnancy, and may be slightly phototoxic.
This is an awesome blend! Helichrysum is an expensive oil to buy on it’s own, and has a powerhouse of healing properties. I mostly smell the Tea Tree oil in it first, then the medicinal aroma softens into a nice woody/citrus finish.
Simply Earth Bulgarian Lavender Essential Oil (15 mL) – Retail Value $13.99
Lavender is probably the most well-known, and popular essential oils (for good reason), and is a must-have for your collection. It is calming & relaxing, can aid in sleep, promotes healthy skin, relieves sore muscles, and boosts immunity. Cautions: This oil is safe for kids (2+), however it is recommended to consult your doctor before using it during breast feeding or pregnancy. It is safe for dogs, but not for cats.
One of my favorites! I use Lavender in ALL THE TIME – especially to spray on my pillow at night. It smells soooo good, and the benefits are endless. I go through a lot of bottles, so I was thrilled to get it!
Simply Earth Cardamom Essential Oil (5 mL) – Retail Value $19.99
Cardamom essential oil has a cool & minty aroma and flavor, and supports healthy respiration, reduces swelling, soothes sore muscles and joints, supports digestion, eases nausea, and uplifts mood. Cautions: This oil is safe for kids (10+), as well as for dogs/cats, however it is not recommended for use during breast feeding or pregnancy.
One of my favorite uses for Cardamom is putting a few drops of it in my water or tea to help with my tummy issues! It tastes quite good, but a little goes a long way.
Each bottle gives the specifics of that oil’s batch and origin, as well as a child safety rating – which is extremely helpful.
Each oil bottle also comes with the ‘Simply Pure Promise’ that has a 365 day guarantee!
Creating New Standards
From displaying quality testing for our oils in the form of GC/MS reports for all our oils right on the product page to visiting our vetiver farm in Haiti, we are working on creating the standards for what it means to have high quality oils. All this is backed with our 365 day Simply Earth Guarantee.
The bottles come equipped with dropper attachments for easy measuring, and to prevent spillage.
Simply Earth Aloe Vera Gel (2 oz) – Retail Value $5.99
Aloe Vera contains antioxidants, enzymes, Vitamins A and C, and it is highly anti-inflammatory. It can help treat burns (including razor burns), some forms of acne, dry skin, and should be a staple in your medicine cabinet!
During this time of pandemic and self-quarantine, I’ve been busy using Aloe Vera to make hand sanitizer! I combine aloe vera gel, 90% isopropyl alcohol, essential oils, and witch hazel toner. It works great!
Simply Earth Dried Calendula Flowers – Retail Value $3.99 (NOTE: Item not currently available in shop, so value is based on similar here.)
Calendula is a flower used to make herbal medicines, and can be applied to the skin to reduce pain and swelling (inflammation) and to treat poorly healing wounds. You can read about all of it’s benefits and uses here.
Simply Earth also includes color coordinated stickers for your oils and projects – they’ve thought of everything!
Each box comes with (6) color-coded, aromatherapist-certified recipe cards with toxin-free ingredients. Each recipe can be made in just a few minutes (nothing too extreme here!), and almost all of the ingredients needed are included (or were included in your free bonus box that came with your first box).
Recipe Cards: Sleek & Smooth Shaving Butter / Calendula Solar Infused Oil / Digest Help Roll On
Recipe Cards: Burn Salve, No Stress Blend, Skin Healing Gel
I decided to make ALL 6 recipes this month to show you how wonderful and easy they are! You’re welcome. 😉
Recipe Project: Sleek & Smooth Shaving Butter
This one by far was my favorite recipe this month! It smells wonderful, it feels wonderful, and it was fun to make and photograph.
This recipe called for some ingredients (solid & fractionated coconut oil) from the ‘Big Bonus Box’ that comes free with the first box, and then with every sixth box. You simply combine the list of ingredients on the recipe card in a medium bowl, and then use an electric mixer until it looks ‘creamy’, and Ta-Da! Shaving butter!
I had to provide my own container for this one, and I ended up using an empty glass vitamin jar I had saved for just such an occasion. Doesn’t it look beautiful?? It is silky-soft on the skin, absorbs well (without clogging pores) and is for using after you shave. I, however, use it daily on my skin whether I shave or not. 😉
Since the weather here is in the 100’s right now, I’m storing it in the refrigerator so it doesn’t melt. FYI, it makes my really old ankle tattoo look shiny and new!
Recipe Project: Digest Help Roll On
Each month there is a recipe for a roll-on, and this month’s roll-on is for your belly, to soothe digestion and/or nausea. The Lavender & Cardamom together has a nice aroma, and since I just switched-up my diet, I’m sure it’s going to come in handy until I adjust! This recipe also required items from the bonus box; fractionated coconut oil and a glass roller.
These are so easy to make – just put the suggested number of drops of essential oil into the bottle, then fill with the rest of the way up with fractionated (MCT) coconut oil. 30 seconds, tops!
Recipe Project: Burn Salve
Another fun one! Salves are a favorite in my household, and with the hot weather arriving with a vengeance, I’m sure I’ll be dealing with sunburns soon. Although, even if I’m not dealing with a burn, this salve will work great as a moisturizer. The beeswax and coconut oil from the bonus box were needed for this recipe, and a container. Most of the time containers are included, but I think because this month’s box had some pricey oils, they didn’t include as many extras.
If you have a double boiler, those work best, but you can also melt the beeswax in a small glass container that sits in a boiling pot with about an inch of water.
The longest part of this recipe was waiting for the salve to cool!
These kind of projects make great gifts, too – maybe a nice beard balm for Father’s Day?
Recipe Project: Skin Healing Gel
I don’t know about the rest of the world, but I bruise easily and am constantly getting little cuts and scratches from gardening, my dog, and generally being a klutz. Like I said earlier, I use the Aloe Vera to make hand sanitizer, and now I have some skin healing gel, too!
It couldn’t get any easier to make, all you do is add the fractionated coconut oil, and the essential oils right to the Aloe Vera container, and stir! My kind of difficulty level!
I just put the label right on the side of the Aloe Vera jar.
Recipe Project: Calendula Solar Infused Oil
This was my other favorite recipe because not only is it easy to prepare, but after you let the dried calendula flowers solar infuse for 2-3 weeks in the avocado oil, you can then add Simply Earth’s new CBD Oil to the mix (CBD oil is NOT included in the June 2020 box) if you like (which I did), making it a super effective and soothing remedy for wounds, aches & pains.
I had to provide my own (air tight) glass jar, and then I added the dried Calendula flowers to the bottom, filling up the rest of the jar with the avocado oil I received in my bonus box. This oil is a great addition to any apothecary cabinet, because this infused oil can be also be used to make other recipes. You’ll need cheesecloth when you harvest the batch, so that you don’t have the dried flower particles in your final infused version.
It is out on my patio infusing as I write!
Recipe Project: No Stress Blend
Diffuser blend recipes are included every month as well, and I really liked the aroma of these oils together, so I made a master blend of it right away. The recipe card gives you the ingredient amounts you need to put directly into you diffuser, as well as for a master blend. The bonus box includes (6) 5 ml bottles so that you can make master blends each month if you choose.
There you have it – all 6 finished recipes from the June 2020 box, in all their glory! I had so much fun making them, and am happy to be sitting here smelling good while healing all my wounds. 😉
So what do you think of the June 2020 Simply Earth Essential Oils Recipe Box? I’m so totally obsessed with this box! I am consistently impressed by the quality and usability of this subscription at such a reasonable price. The total (current) estimated retail value of this box is $71.94 + the recipe cards and label stickers that I don’t have a value for, which I think is AMAZING for a $39.99 box with 4 full-size essential oils and additional ingredients! That really is a HUGE value comparatively to other essential oils out there of equal quality, and it is so handy to be able to make so many different recipes without having to buy a bunch of additional expensive ingredients.
This subscription is a great way to learn and build up an essential oil collection that isn’t so overwhelming, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT so much! IMHO you absolutely can’t go wrong any way you look at it!
Don’t forget! Use code CDMFREE at this link when you checkout to receive a $40 gift card in your first box! (NOTE: This code is for first-time subscribers only, and the gift card can be used on future purchases or your next box. The code is not a discount, but an additional incentive intended for first time subscribers.)
