The Big Bonus Box includes additional supplies needed to make the recipes in the subsequent boxes.

Your next box will be billed and shipped on the same day you placed your first order in. You can cancel any time, or skip a box. These are the extra supplies you receive with each Big Bonus Box – Beeswax, Coconut Oil (solid), Coconut Oil (Liquid), Almond Oil, (6) 10 mL Glass Roller Bottles, and (6) 5 mL Dropper Bottles. For more details, you can see my full review of them here.
Behold – the September 2020 Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box!
The oils are packed really nicely in sturdy cardboard pockets to decrease the chances of spillage or breakage.
Each monthly box comes with 4 essential oils + 6 recipe cards, and additional items to complete the recipes. Quite impressive for the low cost of the box! Simply Earth is able to cut out the middle-man and work directly with the farmers to give you a more affordable value. This is the haul from the September 2020 Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box themed “You Stinker” – ha!
On the backs of the recipe cards are notes and additional information about the box. This is a note from Katie – a recipe formulator and certified aromatherapist. This month she talks about the theme of the box (You Stinker!) and how you can deodorize your home & car without the synthetic fragrances and toxic chemicals that are in most store-bought air fresheners.
Have a question? Want to know more? Looking for recipes? Simply Earth has several resources available through their website; a FAQ page, a blog, a subscriber Facebook page, an essential oil hero course, and an email for customer service.
Simply Earth gives back! With every box and purchase, you are helping in the fight against human trafficking. This month, 13% of their profits are going to ‘Exodus Cry‘, a group whose international work involves uprooting the underlying causes in our culture that allow the industry of sexual exploitation to thrive, and helping those who have been sexually exploited. Even if you aren’t a Simply Earth subscriber, I highly encourage you to support this cause.
You also receive a ‘sneek peek’ at next month’s box that is themed “DIY Spa Day”! I appreciate that they inform you ahead of time, of any extra items you may need to complete the recipes.
Be sure to see how you can get 50% off your next box! A card is included with the details.
This card is a breakdown of the items included in this month’s box (with descriptions).
Simply Earth’s batch-tested, 100% pure essential oil selections for September 2020! Not all essential oils are created equal, so it’s important to be diligent when selecting the oils you wish to use. You want to look for purity, where the oil is from (grown) and it’s therapeutic grade classification. Don’t just blindly order from any company – do your research! I’ve done mine, and Simply Earth gets a thumbs up from this picky buyer.
Commitment to Quality
With the safety of your home in mind, we’re meticulous about every step of our process. To make sure each plant reaches its potential, we carefully and ethically choose a region where it will thrive. Then we work with our farmers. When our plants have reached maturity, they are harvested safely and fairly. From there we collect their natural essential oils through either cold-pressing or steam-distillation. Every batch is then tested to ensure 100% purity.
Here are the deets on each oil included in this box:
Simply Earth Defender Essential Oil Blend (15 mL) – Retail Value $15.99
Defender essential oil is a blend of Cinnamon, Rosemary, Lemon, Eucalyptus and Clove, and is perfect for making DIY home cleaners that can sanitize and help you fight against germs. You can also diffuse it to give your body an extra (immunity) boost!
Cautions: This oil is safe for kids (10+), but is not recommended for use during breastfeeding or pregnancy, or for dogs/cats. There is a small risk of phototoxicity due to the Lemon Essential Oil content of this blend. Do not use this blend if you have epilepsy or high blood pressure. Avoid this blend if you are on anticoagulant and/or antidepressant medication. This blend may be irritating to mucus membranes so use caution when diffusing it. Dilution rate is 3% or less.
I am obsessed with this blend! It smells AMAZING when diffusing (sweet & spicy), and it’s actually motivating me to clean, which is a first.
Simply Earth Lemon Eucalyptus Essential Oil (15 mL) – Retail Value $7.99
Lemon Eucalyptus, popular because of its bug and insect repelling properties, is also great at deodorizing spaces while at the same time supporting a healthy respiratory system and providing calm in any environment. It can also soothe an upset stomach.
Cautions: This oil is safe for kids (2+), however a doctor consult is recommended for using during breastfeeding or pregnancy. It is safe for dogs, but not for cats. Avoid if you have high blood pressure or epilepsy. Dilution rate is 5% or less.
Eucalyptus is our household’s all-time favorite scent, so this oil got a big thumbs up. It has a lighter, sweeter citrusy smell than the regular eucalyptus, and being that bugs love me, I bathe in this stuff while outside.
Simply Earth Clove Bud Essential Oil (15 mL) – Retail Value $10.99
Sweet & spicy Clove essential oil is known to warm the mind & body, improve focus, promote confidence and help fight seasonal illnesses.
Cautions: This oil is safe for kids (10+), but is not recommended for use during breastfeeding or pregnancy, or for dogs/cats. This oil is skin irritating, so be sure to follow dilution instructions. Don’t use this oil on sensitive or broken skin. Clove Essential Oil can be irritating to mucous membranes and may cause sensitization. Do not use Clove Essential Oil if you are on an anticoagulant or antidepressant medications as the eugenol content of this oil may interfere with these medications. This interference is most likely if the essential oil is ingested – never ingest an essential oil unless under the guidance of a doctor versed in pharmaceuticals and aromatherapy. Dilution rate is 0.3% or less.
When I first started using essential oils (before I found Simply Earth), I had no idea what I was doing and someone told me to use clove essential oil on my toothache. They failed to tell me to dilute it first, and well, I might as well have put a habanero pepper on my tooth, because OUCH! BURN! It worked well and I lived, but dilution is of the utmost importance! Always read labels…always, always, always. I love this oil though, it smells really good and works great.
Simply Earth Blood Orange Essential Oil (15 mL) – Retail Value $9.99
Blood Orange essential oil is used to uplift & stimulate, relieve sadness & moodiness, ease nervous tension, repel insects, help with aches & inflammation, and clean & disinfect.
Cautions: This oil is safe for kids (2+), however a doctor consult is recommended for using during breastfeeding or pregnancy. It is safe for dogs, but not for cats. Due to the presence of bergaptene in this oil, please consult a physician prior to using it. Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided. Dilution rate is 5% or less.
For anyone who suffers from anxiety (I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder), this oil is a MUST-HAVE! It also smells delicious, and makes me happy. 🙂
Each bottle gives the specifics of that oil’s batch and origin, as well as a child safety rating – which is extremely helpful.
Each oil bottle also comes with the ‘Simply Pure Promise’ that has a 365 day guarantee!
Creating New Standards
From displaying quality testing for our oils in the form of GC/MS reports for all our oils right on the product page to visiting our vetiver farm in Haiti, we are working on creating the standards for what it means to have high quality oils. All this is backed with our 365 day Simply Earth Guarantee.
The bottles come equipped with dropper attachments for easy measuring, and to prevent spillage.
Natural Wool Fiber Balls + Cotton Bag – Retail Value $1.50?
For scale. These are so cute! Good Fall colors, too. Wool Fiber acts as a natural diffuser for essential oils.
Amber Spray Bottle 2 oz. – Retail Value $2.99
The regular & bonus boxes include most of the items you will need for the six recipes they provide. Anything not included is usually common household items like baking soda or distilled water.
Simply Earth also includes color coordinated stickers for your oils and projects – they’ve thought of everything! Hopefully you are better at cutting these than I am – I always get a good chuckle at my attempts.
Here are the (6) color-coded, aromatherapist-certified recipe cards with toxin-free ingredients that were included in this box. Each recipe can be made in just a few minutes (nothing too extreme here!).
I decided to make ALL 6 recipes this month to show you how wonderful and easy they are! You’re welcome. 😉
Recipe Project: Drawer Deodorizer
This project calls for cotton balls (not included), which I had. What woman doesn’t? You could also use the wool balls that came in the box, but there is a separate recipe for those, and I wanted to do both.
The cotton balls act as a diffuser for the essential oils, and you simply put a few drops on, and let them dry in a bowl. It is important to let the oil dry so it doesn’t stain the cotton bag. Such simplicity, but so effective!
Ta-Da! The sticker label doesn’t really stay on, but this little bag is perfect for a lingerie or sock drawer, or even the hamper to help with the dirty clothes smell.
Recipe Project: Don’t Bug Me Roll On
Each month there is a recipe for a roll-on, and this month’s roll-on is for repelling bugs during your outdoor adventures. I would never have thought of the combination of Lemon Eucalyptus & Clove, but it smells really nice! This recipe required items from the bonus box; fractionated coconut oil and a glass roller.
These are so easy to make – just put the suggested number of drops of essential oil into the bottle, then fill with the rest of the way up with fractionated (MCT) coconut oil. 30 seconds, tops!
To use, roll onto the pulse points (wrists, neck, back of knees), but make sure to test on the back on the hand first.
Recipe Project: Defeat the Reek Diffuser Blend
Diffuser blend recipes are included every month as well, and if you are a fan, the recipe includes a master blend you can make to have on hand. The recipe card gives you the ingredient amounts you need to put directly into you diffuser, as well as for a master blend. The bonus box includes (6) 5 ml bottles so that you can make master blends each month if you choose.
I’m loving all the oils this month, and my house has never smelled cleaner!
Recipe Project: Mini Car Diffuser
This recipe card listed a bunch of different ways you could create a mini diffuser, including using a thread and needle, or using jewelry making supplies such as beads. I’m of the lazy variety and decided a large safety pin would be perfect! 😛
No skillz required!
Goes perfect on my keychain, thankyouverymuch. Yep, WAY too much stuff on my keyring, I know.
Recipe Project: No Stink Disk
This was the most involved recipe of the six, but still pretty easy. In addition to the items included in the box; baking soda, a bowl, distilled water and a mold was needed.
Mixing all the ingredients together per the directions…
Luckily, I had this spherical ice mold that worked pretty good to make a larger disk. I filled it only half way since it the mixture is soft when first made. You could also make multiple disks in a regular ice tray.
After letting it set in the mold for 24 hours, I wrapped the disk in Saran Wrap and put the label on it. Using ‘plastic’ wrap is probably not the perfect ‘clean’ choice, but it’s all I had. I think I’m going to break this in two, and use one half to deodorize the garbage disposal, and the other half for the toilet!
Recipe Project: Smell Fresh Body Spray
Another quick & fun one to make – same as the roller but adding distilled water (not included) for a spray. Be sure to shake before using – the water and oil separates of course! You can use this one directly onto the body, OR as a room spray/deodorizer.
If you want to smell sweet & spicy, and feel soft & clean, this body spray is great for using after a bath or shower.
So what do you think of the September 2020 Simply Earth Essential Oils Recipe Box? I’m so totally obsessed with these oils! I am consistently impressed by the quality and usability of this subscription at such a reasonable price. The total (current) estimated retail value of this box is $49.45 + $45 for the Bonus Box items (not including the recipe cards and label stickers that I don’t have a value for). I think that is pretty amazing for $39.99! That really is a HUGE value comparatively to other essential oils out there of equal quality, and it is so handy to be able to make so many different recipes without having to buy a bunch of additional expensive ingredients.
This subscription is a great way to learn and build up an essential oil collection that isn’t so overwhelming, and I look forward to getting it every time! IMHO you absolutely can’t go wrong if you enjoy essential oils and DIY projects.
Don’t forget! Use code CDMFREE at this link when you checkout to receive a $40 gift card in your first box! (NOTE: This code is for first-time subscribers only, and the gift card can be used on future purchases or your next box. The code is not a discount, but an additional incentive intended for first time subscribers.)
