Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box Review, January 2020 + Incentive Offer!

WOW, I can’t believe it’s almost 2020, but I’m excited to see what this year brings!  This last year for me was all about health and fitness, and Simply Earth essential oils have become a big part of my life.  I am consistently amazed with their therapeutic benefits, and love sharing my projects with friends & family.  Last month’s lip balms were a huge hit!!

If you are just getting started, or even if you are a seasoned expert, Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box is an awesome way to experience a variety of quality tested 100% pure essential oils and learn tons of new ways to incorporate them into your daily regimen in just minutes a day.  Today I am excited to be reviewing the January 2020 box of “Winter Wellness”!

Simply Earth is a small, family-run essential oils company based in Hingham, Wisconsin.  Each month, Simply Earth provides its subscribers with everything they need to make handmade natural products with friends & family, and to create a natural home – all for a great value.  I’ve been using essential oils for years and can attest to their life-changing therapeutic benefits, and I am absolutely THRILLED to be able to review this box for you!  You can see my other Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box reviews here.

Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box is $39/month (+tax if applicable) with free US shipping (they also ship to Canada, but shipping fees apply), or there is a quarterly subscription option where you will receive one box every 3 months.  The quarterly subscription is $45 (+tax if applicable) every 3 months.  Every box is curated around a theme and includes 4 full-size essential oils + the toxin-free ingredients & containers you need to make 6 natural recipes.  As a member, you will also receive exclusive access to members-only discounts and sales on Simply Earth products in their shop.

NEW AND NOTEWORTHY!  Simply Earth recently launched a ‘Starter Box’ because the monthly recipe boxes have been selling out almost every month!  To make up for that, they came up with the Starter Box so that interested subscribers don’t have to wait.  The Starter Box also has recipe cards and will come with a free Big Bonus Box.  So, if the December box sells out, don’t worry – you will get the Starter Box!  Moving forward, Starter Boxes will replace the monthly boxes whenever a monthly box sells out.

This is my third Simply Earth box, so I’m receiving the main monthly recipe box only.  I want to note that you only get the free ‘Big Bonus Box’ with your first box, and then with every 6th box – which I have to say is a phenomenal perk!  The Big Bonus Box includes additional supplies needed to make the recipes in the subsequent boxes, and you can see my review of it here.

Once subscribed/ordered, your box generally ships the next day and and will arrive 2-3 business days after that.  Your next box will be billed and shipped on the same day you placed your first order in.  You can cancel any time, or skip a box.

My crazy box-packer shares the same name as me!  They look like a fun bunch to work with, don’t they??

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

Each monthly box comes with 4 full-sized essential oils (15 mL each), which is quite impressive for the low cost of the box!  They are packed really well as you can see, so that they arrive in perfect condition.

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

Here is the entire January 2020 Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box themed “Winter Wellness”.

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

On the backs of the recipe cards are notes and additional information about the box.  This is a note from Katie – a recipe formulator and certified aromatherapist.  This month she talks about the theme of the box (Winter Wellness) and how it translates into self-care to help you focus, support your body’s natural processes, and refresh you.  All natural and toxin-free, of course!

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

Simply Earth has a Facebook page exclusive to members to share recipes and ideas, ask questions and socialize with other subscribers with a mission to live a toxin-free life.  You can also find other ‘Earthies’ (Simply Earth Fans) on their Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest Social Media pages – just look for @fromsimplyearth.

They also have an ALL NEW Essential Oils for Beginners Course that is offered to subscribers for free!  No matter how much you know about essential oils, I would highly recommend taking advantage of this incredible deal that retails for $249!

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

Simply Earth gives back!  With every box and purchase, you are helping in the fight against human trafficking.  This month a part of their profits are going to ‘Call to Freedom‘, a group out of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, striving to put an end to modern day slavery.  I love, love, LOVE this mission, and Call to Freedom KICKS ASS.  They provide emergency assistance, support needs and offer long-term services so that the survivors can be self sufficient.  How awesome is that?!?  Even if you aren’t a Simply Earth subscriber, I highly encourage you to support their cause.

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

This card is a breakdown of the items included in this month’s box (with descriptions), and a reminder that with Simply Earth you get quality ingredients at a low cost!  If you are already an essential oil lover, you’ve probably heard of all the ‘big dogs’ out there like doTerra and Young Living, which have fabulous oils, but they come with a hefty price tag.  Simply Earth is able to cut out the middle-man and work directly with the farmers to give you a more affordable value.

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

Here are Simply Earth’s batch-tested, 100% pure essential oil selections for January!  Not all essential oils are created equal, so it’s important to be diligent when selecting the oils you wish to use.  You want to look for purity, where the oil is from (grown) and it’s therapeutic grade classification.  Don’t just blindly order from any company – do your research!  I’ve done mine, and Simply Earth gets a thumbs up from this picky buyer.

Commitment to Quality

With the safety of your home in mind, we’re meticulous about every step of our process. To make sure each plant reaches its potential, we carefully and ethically choose a region where it will thrive. Then we work with our farmers. When our plants have reached maturity, they are harvested safely and fairly. From there we collect their natural essential oils through either cold-pressing or steam-distillation. Every batch is then tested to ensure 100% purity.

Here are the details for each oil included in this box:

Simply Earth Clary Sage Essential Oil 15 mL – Retail Value $18.99

Clary Sage is a favorite for easing aches & pains, promoting circulation, supporting menstruation, balancing hormones and calming anxiety and stress.  This oil is also safe for kids (2+), and can be used safely during breast feeding and pregnancy.  It’s sweet herbaceous aroma is calming and uplifting, and perfect for soothing the mind along with the body.

At 48 years old, I’ve recently entered into what is known as “peri-menopause”, and let’s just say it’s NOT FUN.  Clary Sage is a MUST-HAVE for this stage of life; as it helps ease many of the hormonal imbalance symptoms like mood swings, hot flashes and general homicidal fantasies.  It also helps with cramping and bloating, so needless to say I’M A FAN, and so is the rest of my family.  😉

Simply Earth Lemon Essential Oil 15 mL – Retail Value $7.99

Lemon oil has been historically recognized as a cleanser. It reached the height of its fame when the British Navy used lemon to counteract the effects of scurvy. This citrus fruit is energizing, cooling, and promotes mental clarity.

Cautions:  Always dilute an essential oil with a carrier oil before using it on the skin. This oil is also safe for kids (2+), and can be used safely during breast feeding and pregnancy, however this oil is best used at a 1-2% dilution rate on the skin because it becomes phototoxic when used on the skin at dilution rates higher than 2.5% (12 drops/ounce carrier oil). Cats will not like the citrus smell of this oil, but it is unlikely to cause any adverse reactions. Make sure your cat can leave the room if you are using this oil. This oil is generally safe for dogs.

Lemon essential oil should be a staple in everyone’s home & life.  It makes everything fresh and clean and happy!  I use it in my laundry – putting a few drops on wool balls and throwing them in the dryer.  It’s amazing!

Simply Earth Ho Wood Essential Oil 15 mL – Retail Value $9.99

Ho Wood Essential Oil has recently become popular as a replacement for Rosewood Essential Oil which is a threatened species.  It assists in meditation and helps prepare for any spiritual healing, calms the nerves, is cooling, supporting to the immune system, helps reduce swelling and aids in aches of muscles and joints.

Cautions: This oil is safe for kids (2+), and can be used safely during breast feeding and pregnancy, however this oil is best used at a 1% dilution rate on the skin.

I have a HUGE crush on Ho Wood Essential Oil!!  Woody & floral is what my nose likes, and it is also a wonderful addition to my daily yoga & meditation practice.  Add in the fact that it soothes swelling and sore muscles, and I’m a user for life!

Simply Earth ‘Relief’ Essential Oil Blend 15 mL – Retail Value $13.99

In life, we are unfortunately subject to occasional discomfort. Relief Essential Oil Blend is a warming blend created to help relieve that discomfort.

Ingredients: Rosemary, Juniper Berry, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, and Copaiba essential oils.

Cautions:  May only be used on children 10+, and is NOT recommended during pregnancy or breast feeding. Dilute well before use; for external use only; using too much of this oil could over-stimulate the kidneys; may cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use; contact with eyes should be avoided; dermal maximum 16.5%, do not use if epileptic, do not use with high blood pressure.

This blend is a powerhouse for pain!  I know it comes with a lot of cautions, but I can’t recommend this oil enough if you suffer from any kind of joint, connective tissue or muscle pain including arthritis, fibromyalgia and inflammatory diseases.  Copaiba essential oil (one of the ingredients in this blend) is quite a unique and powerful oil all on it’s own.  You can read all about it here.

Recipe Cards:  Refresh Spray / Relax & Detox Foot Bath

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

Recipe Cards:  Meditation Diffuser Blend / Relief Roll On

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

OK, let’s get to the recipes!  I’m starting with the ‘Refresh Spray’.  As far as the ingredients, I added the distilled water and Witch Hazel that I had on hand, and everything else was included.

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

The tiny funnel is mine (it’s not included in the box), but is not required to make the recipe.  However, I recommend getting one because it makes everything easier with less chance of spillage.  I’m a bit of a klutz.  You can get one here(Commissions may be earned with link.)

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

This recipe took longer to photograph than to make, seriously!  Two minutes, tops.

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

I am currently using this spray to freshen up my Winter throw blankets!  It smells really nice, and because I love the Ho Wood Essential Oil so much, I added a couple of extra drops beyond what the recipe calls for.  I’m such a rebel.

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

Next up, Relief Massage Oil!  Another easy-peasy recipe with very few ingredients, yet delivers big results.  Everything needed is included in the box – I didn’t even have to use my funnel for this one since the bottle top is a little wider.

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

This cute little bottle sits on my desk because sitting at the computer for hours on end doing reviews is murder on my back!  If I start to get a little stiff or sore, I massage this oil into my lower back, and stretch for a few minutes.  Within an hour, relief is mine!  It really works!  The aroma is great too – minty and uplifting.  It reminds me of the sports cream my dad used to use, except mine is toxin-free!

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

For scale.

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

Since I workout every day, I decided to make the other ‘Relief’ recipe – the Relief Roll On – to carry with me to combat sore and fatigued muscles.  This is another 2-minute project (don’t hurt yourself – ha!) and all the ingredients are included, although the coconut oil is from the bonus box that I received with my first Simply Earth box.

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

This roller bottle fits perfectly into a gym bag, although I would recommend keeping it inside a Zip Lock bag in case it leaks.

Simply Earth Box Review January 2020

So here are 3 of the 6 recipes included in this month’s box.  All together they took me about 10 minutes to complete, including cutting out the labels.  I’m having so much fun with these projects, and the relief recipes are SO appreciated!  I’m going to be starting the year off right with these toxin-free self-care items.

So what do you think of the January 2020 Simply Earth Essential Oils Recipe Box?  I am consistently impressed by the quality and usability of this subscription at such a reasonable price.  The total (current) estimated retail value of the January box is about $63.53 (not including the recipe cards or label stickers), which I think is fabulous for a $39 box with 4 full-size essential oils and additional ingredients.  That really is a HUGE value comparatively to other essential oils out there of equal quality, and it is so handy to be able to make so many different recipes without having to buy a bunch of additional expensive ingredients.  This subscription is a great way to learn and build up an essential oil collection that isn’t so overwhelming.  IMHO you absolutely can’t go wrong any way you look at it!

Don’t forget!  Use code CDMFREE at this link when you checkout to receive a $40 gift card in your first box!  (NOTE:  This code is for first-time subscribers only, and the gift card can be used on future purchases or your next box. The code is not a discount, but an additional incentive intended for first time subscribers.)

Hi, I’m Cheryl, a.k.a. "CrazyDogMama". Welcome to my blog - it's about time you visited! Anything and everything goes here - seriously. I'm a 40-something introverted writer and maker of body care products.

I am obsessed with books (mainly the Holy Bible of late), writing, essential oils, intermittent fasting, road trips, subscription boxes, and all geeky things related to earthquakes, space weather and the last days written about in Revelation. I exist mainly on coffee. I'm not above writing about uncomfortable subjects, and political correctness isn't my priority, I'm just real. I also love Jesus. So, if you're good with all that, take a look around and get to know me! Oh, and my dog Jack is my muse, so I like to exploit him here. ;-)
