Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box Review, March 2020
This is my second Simply Earth Essential Oils Recipe BIG BONUS BOX, which is a special box that includes extra complimentary items (in addition to the regular box for that month) that subscribers receive with their first subscription order, and then again with every sixth box! It includes a variety of supplies that work together with your oils to create recipes. What an awesome perk!

Coconut oil is the go-to ingredient for a ton of natural skincare products, and can also be used as a dietary supplement if it is food-grade. When making recipes, it helps solidify the ingredients together and has a multitude of healthful benefits. You can read about the top 10 evidence-based health benefits of coconut oil here. I use it most often for making salves/ointments and lip balms – you melt it down, add your oils/herbs/flowers and then just let it cool down.
People have fallen head over heels for coconut oil and it’s not hard to see why! Coconut oil is known for hydrating, soothing, and softening your skin. It can also be a highly effective makeup remover, hair mask, facial moisturizer, and shaving lotion. The uses are endless!
Coconut oil is an absolute staple in my house!

Fractionated coconut oil, or “MCT” oil is most commonly used as a ‘carrier’ oil for essential oils to create roll-on blends, or to dilute the potency of some of the stronger essential oils that can cause irritation if used on their own. With the same benefits of the solid coconut oil, it will not clog your pores and provides your skin with moisture and nutrients.
Simply Earth Almond Oil 4 oz – Retail Value $7.99
Almond Oil is like Goldilocks’ porridge: it’s just right. It isn’t too oily, but still moisturizes. It nourishes, but doesn’t clog pores. It is full of vitamins A, B, and E, promotes healthy skin, and can have a lasting effect on your hair and nails, too! What can’t sweet almond do?
The abundant Vitamin E in almond oil keeps your skin cells healthy, protects your skin from UV radiation damage, and helps your skin look smooth, soft, and free of fine lines. The fatty acids help your skin retain moisture and can heal chapped and irritated skin. Plus, it’s Vitamin A can help reduce acne. This is a great oil for facial care! Simply Earth Beeswax 2 oz – Retail Value $3.99
Beeswax is another must-have staple for your essential oil arsenal, and these little pellets are MUCH easier to use than the solid blocks – especially for measuring. There are white and yellow varieties, and Simply Earth has included the white variety, which is my preference – so, YAY! Just like the coconut oil, you melt it down, add your additional ingredients, and let cool. Beeswax gives a more substantial solid (or dense) end result because it has a much higher melting point.
When used in making skincare products, beeswax creates a barrier which helps to seal moisture into the skin and allows it to breathe, and also helps protect the skin from toxins and environmental irritants. You can read about 12 creative uses for beeswax and it’s benefits here.

Patchouli used to be packed with silks and cashmere from India all throughout the British Empire to repel insects. In aromatherapy and perfumery, Patchouli provides an excellent fixative that can help extend the shelf life of other more expensive oils. It also helps improve skin’s appearance and can calm nervous tension and worry.

Patchouli essential oil has a spicy, slightly sweet and woody aroma. It is often used in men’s fragrances, and therefore is a favorite of mine. I love masculine scents! In the summer months, wearing patchouli on the body (diluted of course) is great way to repel bugs when you are outdoors! Me no like bugs.
Simply Earth Cypress Essential Oil 15 mL – Retail Value $11.99
Believed to bring comfort to those grieving, Cypress trees were commonly planted by headstones in old cemeteries. Cypress was traditionally used by early cultures as incense and as a diuretic, but now it’s most commonly used for its aromatic properties that help with emotional stability.
Cypress Essential Oil benefits: Calms, purifies and cleanses, assists grief, trauma or transition, eliminates oily skin, and deodorizes.
Cautions: Always dilute an essential oil with a carrier oil before using it on the skin. Cypress smells like the deep forest to me – which is a very good thing! It isn’t mentioned in the description above, but Cypress essential oil is also considered an ‘antispasmodic’, which means it can aid in reducing muscle pain & cramps. It seems to me that blending Cypress and Patchouli would be the perfect combo for a challenging hike!
Simply Earth Orange Essential Oil 15 mL – Retail Value $6.99
Likely originating in China, the dried peels of the orange tree were used in ancient Chinese medicine to treat coughs and colds. Now Orange Essential Oil is used for its uplifting and comforting effect on mood, while also being able to ease sore muscles and aid in digestion. It’s also been used for centuries as an all-natural degreaser.

Orange essential oil is one of the most popular oils out there, and you’ll often find it included in starter kits because of it’s many benefits. I use it in the laundry, my diffuser and in cleaning products. It has such a comforting smell, and it makes everybody happy!

This is hands-down my new favorite blend! I use eucalyptus and peppermint A LOT, but adding in the lemon is genius. Inhaling this oil instantly energizes me and makes me feel alert. It also helps my sinuses, and it smells DIVINE.
Each bottle gives the specifics of that oil’s batch and origin, as well as a child safety rating – which is extremely helpful.

Creating New Standards

Simply Earth Lava Rock Beads – Retail Value $I have no idea.
Lava rocks are natural diffusers, and can be a fun way to utilize your essential oils! You can use them to make jewelry, house them in a bowl, or put them in the pot of a fake plant. Simply put a few drops of essential oil(s) onto the beads, and then enjoy the benefits! This item is not listed in the Simply Earth shop, so I’m unsure of the value.
Empty Inhaler – Retail Value $0.50
These are great! Inhalers can be used for sinus relief, as a calming agent, or as a mood booster – depending on the blend you create.
(5) Reeds – Retail Value $I have no idea.
I’m so excited! I love reed diffusers! This item is not listed in the Simply Earth shop, so I’m unsure of the value.
Simply Earth also includes color coordinated stickers for your oils and projects – they’ve thought of everything! Hopefully you are better at cutting these than I am, good God.
Each box comes with (6) color-coded, aromatherapist-certified recipe cards with toxin-free ingredients. Each recipe can be made in just a few minutes (nothing too extreme here!), and almost all of the ingredients needed are included (or were included in your free bonus box that came with your first box).

OK, let’s get to making the recipes! I’m starting with the ‘Persevere Roll On’. All of the ingredients needed are included.
Roller bottle blends are super easy, quick and fun. This is the project I experiment with the most! All you do is add fractionated coconut oil and a few drops of essential oils to the roller bottle, and you are good to go! There are an infinite number of blends and variations, and they are perfect for travel and gifting.
This recipe is a blend of Cypress and Energy (Eucalyptus, Lemon & Peppermint), and being that I’m totally in love with the Energy Blend this month, I was all over this recipe! I absolutely love it, and have it sitting on my desk in front of me right now. 🙂
The labels they provide look really nice, and are much appreciated. Not only are they color-coordinated, but they are waterproof too!
Next up is the Anxiety Relief Inhaler. Another super quick and easy recipe that is going to save my life. I have an anxiety disorder AND I love these oils, so I keep this baby in my pocket and pull it out and use it about every 5 minutes, no doubt looking like a complete lunatic. All of the ingredients needed were included in the box.
All you have to do is disassemble the inhaler (cap off, bottom disk off, cotton tube out), add essential oils to the cotton, and then reassemble. I’m totally obsessed.

I had to make the reed diffuser right away, too! So much fun. The box included the reeds, the oils, the label and the recipe, and I had to supply the vodka, distilled water and bottle. I decided to re-purpose the spray bottle I received in the January Simply Earth Box since I used up my Refresh spray already!
A handsome reed diffuser, no? After mixing the ingredients in the bottle per the recipe card, you soak one end of the reeds for a few hours, then flip them to the opposite ends. You can flip the reeds every few days, and then you’ll need to refresh the ingredients every two weeks. They work well, and look great in the bathroom or bedroom!
I wish I had the tools (and talent) to make a bracelet with the lava beads, but I took the easy way out and decided to use a decorative bowl instead. Step 1, put lava beads in bowl. Step 2, put a few drops of essential oil on beads. Done! Perfect for my nightstand.
I used ALL the oils being the rebel that I am! It was a win.
So what do you think of the March 2020 Simply Earth Essential Oils Recipe Box? I am consistently impressed by the quality and usability of this subscription at such a reasonable price. The total (current) estimated retail value of the regular box is $46.46 + the recipe cards, label stickers, lava beads and reeds that I don’t have a value for, which I think is very fair for a $39 box with 4 full-size essential oils and additional ingredients. That really is a HUGE value comparatively to other essential oils out there of equal quality, and it is so handy to be able to make so many different recipes without having to buy a bunch of additional expensive ingredients. The bonus box with it’s value of $40.84 (or about $50 if you factor in taxes/shipping for retail) gives this month a total retail value of about $100!
This subscription is a great way to learn and build up an essential oil collection that isn’t so overwhelming, and I’m having a lot of fun with it. IMHO you absolutely can’t go wrong any way you look at it!
