Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box Review, May 2021
The May 2021 REDESIGNED Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box! I want to note that you only get the free ‘Big Bonus Box’ with your first box, and then with every 6th box – which I have to say is a phenomenal perk! The Big Bonus Box includes additional supplies needed to make the recipes in the subsequent boxes, and you can see my review of it here.

The crazies over at Simply Earth are at it again – LOL! Can’t say that I’ve ever received essential oils from condiments before…
The oils are packed really nicely in sturdy cardboard pockets to decrease the chances of spillage or breakage.
Each monthly box comes with 4 essential oils + 6 recipe cards, and additional items to complete the recipes. Quite impressive for the low cost of the box! Simply Earth is able to cut out the middle-man and work directly with the farmers to give you a more affordable value. This month is themed “SOAP MAKING / NATURAL CLEANING”.
On the backs of the recipe cards are notes and additional information about the box. This is a note from Katie – a recipe formulator and certified aromatherapist. Tranquility Essential Oil Blend is a calming blend that promotes feelings of contentment, composure and reassurance, helping you feel more at ease and bringing about a sense of well being when anxious feelings try to overwhelm your emotions. It is a beautiful blend of Lemon, Patchouli, Sweet Orange, Amyris & Ylang Ylang Essential Oils.
Cautions: This oil is safe for kids (10+), and is NOT recommended for use during breastfeeding or pregnancy. This blend is possibly phototoxic.
Simply Earth Sweet Orange Essential Oil (15 mL) – Retail Value $7.99
Likely originating in China, the dried peels of the orange tree were used in ancient Chinese medicine to treat coughs and colds. Now Orange Essential Oil is used for its uplifting and comforting effect on mood while also being able to ease sore muscles and aid in digestion. It’s also been used for centuries as an all-natural degreaser and cleaning aid.
Cautions: This oil is safe for kids (2+), and is considered safe for use during breastfeeding and pregnancy, but a doctor consultation is recommended. This oil is considered safe for dogs, but NOT cats.

Oregano is a popular herb found in most kitchens across the globe. Although it’s mostly known as a culinary herb, its uses are not limited to the kitchen, as it can be used to avoid seasonal illnesses, to aid in relieving achy joints and muscles, and as an addition into your cleaning routine. Simply Earth ‘Let’s Be Frank’ Roll-On Recipe Card
Recipe Project: Let’s Be Frank Roll On
Each month there is a recipe for a roll-on, and this month’s roll-on is for supporting calmness & honesty! Roll-on bottle blends are great for keeping in my purse or car. This recipe requires items from the bonus box – fractionated coconut oil and a glass roller.
OK, so, if I had to choose only ONE essential oil – it would be Frankincense! It isn’t because of the aroma, though. The aroma of Frankincense is honestly a little odd to me – not unpleasant, just odd – but the BENEFITS of this oil are out of this world! It is no wonder that it was so popular in Biblical times. However, when you combine it with the Tranquility blend, the aroma is awesome, and the effects are wonderful. Frankincense is so very healing, and Tranquility calms me right down, so this is my new favorite roller! I am getting a kick out of the name too, “Let’s Be Frank” – ha!

These glass rollers come with steel roller balls – which are much better than the plastic ones you sometimes see. To use, roll onto the pulse points (wrists, neck, back of knees), but make sure to test on the back on the hand first.
Simply Earth ‘Unwind’ Diffuser Blend Recipe Card
Recipe Project: Unwind Diffuser (Master) Blend
Diffuser blend recipes are included every month, and if you are a fan, the recipe includes a master blend you can make to have on hand. The recipe card gives you the ingredient amounts you need to put directly into you diffuser, as well as for a master blend. The bonus box includes (6) 5 ml bottles so that you can make master blends each month if you choose.
This (master) blend is quite a cocktail of oils! It does smell quite nice, but IMHO it needs very little Oregano, because that oil is super-duper strong-smelling. I love Oregano in my spaghetti, but I tend to go very easy on it in my DIY projects! I have used the Tranquility Blend before (from last year), and already knew I loved it, so it was nice to get an additional bottle this month!
Simply Earth Herbal Surface Cleaner Recipe Card
Recipe Project: Herbal Surface Cleaner
I used the spray bottle from last month’s Simply Earth box for this recipe, and organic distilled white vinegar from the grocery store.
It must be the Frankincense making me so honest today, but I didn’t care for the aroma of this project. Between the vinegar and the Oregano it lost me, I think. It did clean up my kitchen well and make it shine, but it was a bit too strong for my nose. I may try it without the Oregano next time and see if that helps.

NOTE: You don’t need the soap base for this project! I accidentally put it in the prep photo – oops!
Here is the mixture of coconut milk, oils and clay. I don’t think I shook up the coconut milk very well, but the end product turned out good, so no harm, no foul!
Here is the mixture after cooling in the freezer.
I love the “100% Hand Made” indentation – it looks so professional!
I wrapped the bar in plastic wrap for safe-keeping in the freezer. I get really bad cystic acne during my cycle, and using this to calm it down, works really well!
Simply Earth Rose Sugar Scrub Soap Recipe Card
Recipe Project: Rose Sugar Scrub Soap
This project uses the almond oil from the bonus box, as well as isopropyl alcohol and white sugar that you must supply.
I used a double boiler to melt the soap base and almond oil together (pictured). Double boilers are cheap and I highly recommend getting one for making balms, salves, lotions and soaps.
Here is the mixture after cooling in the soap mold. As long as you mix the sugar in quickly, and then pour immediately into the soap mold, it’s no problem – just don’t let the sugar dissolve before pouring.
Success! I love making soap DIY projects! This sugar scrub smells AMAZING. I can’t wait to try it!
I always wrap my soap projects in plastic wrap to keep them nice, and for applying the label. This would make a great gift – so pretty!
Simply Earth Rose Quartz Soap Recipe Card
Recipe Project: Rose Quartz Soap
This recipe requires you to supply corn starch and isopropyl alcohol.
This is the corn starch, clay, and alcohol mixture. Be sure to use a ceramic or glass dish to mix; nothing porous or it will stain! The rose clay is such a bright, beautiful color, but you have to be careful with it.
Here is the mixture after cooling with the ‘soap bits’ inside – so fun! I used the double boiler of course to melt the soap.
Look at this! I feel like such a pro. I need to open up my own store – LOL! This was my favorite project this month – it’s just lovely and smells awesome. This was the most time consuming project, but still pretty simple. It was fun to make, and now I need to get some more soap base so I can make more!
I reeeeeallly wanted to keep this soap for myself, but I’m giving it as a gift for Mother’s Day instead. Lucky Mother! 🙂
So what do you think of the May 2021 Simply Earth Essential Oils Recipe Box? I was giddy when I saw that it was another soap-making month! This time instead of goat’s milk soap base, it was glycerin, so it was a little different. I don’t know which I like better! I look forward to my box each month, and I am consistently impressed by the quality and usability of this subscription at such a reasonable price. The total (current) retail value of the recipe box is $61.93, (not including the recipe cards or the labels). I think that is absolutely amazing for only $39.99! That really is a HUGE value comparatively to other essential oils out there of equal quality, and it is so handy to be able to make so many different recipes without having to buy a bunch of additional expensive ingredients.
This subscription is a great way to learn and build up an essential oil collection that isn’t so overwhelming, and the recipes are so easy & fun! IMHO you absolutely can’t go wrong if you enjoy essential oils and DIY projects.
